Top 2 underlying causes of foot problems and how to fix them!

The majority of foot problems we see at Corrective Foot Solutions are chronic in nature, and their foot issues have happened over a long period of time. Most of our clients don’t realise this is the case. In fact some research tells us that we might only feel the most recent deterioration in our feet. (Approximately 7% of the overall foot pathology).

What this means is that most people don’t begin to feel pain until it’s too late.

A number of patients that have attended my clinic have been frustrated that no one has discussed the underlying cause of their foot issues or created a plan to address the underlying cause, for long term benefits. Pain as a result of tissue damage or inflammation is usually caused by two main underlying causes.

Underlying cause 1- Misalignment or subluxation

The first underlying cause to foot problems is due to subluxation in the joints of their feet, which basically means the joints are out of alignment. These misalignments affect the way we stand and walk. As a result, the joints, connective tissue and soft tissues become overloaded and therefore the body compensates. Your body’s attempt to compensate will lead to joint degeneration, soft tissue inflammation and eventually pain.

Underlying cause 2- Muscle weakness in the foot

If the muscles in the arch and foot function poorly or are weak, this will contribute to foot, ankle, knee and back pain. Obviously the function of these muscles is largely affected by the alignment or misalignment of the joints. The fantastic news is that it is relatively easy to build up the muscle strength in our feet if you know how to and with some guidance.  We hear all the time that patients have been given or attempted foot exercises that didn’t work. The downside is that the alignment of the joints had not been addressed. If you don’t get the alignment of the joints corrected via advanced Foot Mobilisation, you won’t correct the underlying cause of your foot problems and will potentially be reliant on external devices like orthotics for the rest of your life.

I have people contact us all the time saying they have done foot exercises in the past for their foot pain and bunions but didn’t work or they wear orthotics and their feet still hurt! I then ask if they have attended our clinic, and the answer is always “no”.  I reply that there are two main reasons for this.

1)      The underlying cause has not been addressed (the misalignment  hasn’t been treated)

2)      Our patients stick to their exercises because they are getting treated regularly and are held accountable. The exercises prescribed are easy and only take a few minutes to complete and can be done when cleaning their teeth, in the shower or in the kitchen.

How to fix your foot problems forever and get rid of your orthotics!

In my experience, if you correct the misalignment, then you address the underlying cause. When correcting the underlying cause you stop the compensations and allow the body to heal itself. As a result the body functions better for longer.

Everything works better in the right position.

At Corrective Foot Solutions, we get our great results by using a gentle hands on technique (FMT) that guides the joints into a better position, we then combine specific exercises to support the changes being made. We believe it’s vitally important that you address the underlying cause of your foot problems naturally, and without quick band aid solutions like orthotics.

If you have foot pain and don’t want to rely on orthotics, we believe that treating your foot pain earlier will allow us to address the problem quicker so you can wear the shoes you love and get back to your fitness goals. We believe this so much that we are providing an initial consultation for $25 (Usually $85) only valid till the 8/10/17. Must mention this blog!
